The Philadelphia Phillies made a major splash in the trade market, acquiring right-hander Noah Syndergaard from the Los Angeles Angels. The Phillies sent catcher Logan O'Hoppe and a pair of prospects to Los Angeles in return for the former All-Star.
Syndergaard, 30, is considered one of the top relievers in baseball. He has pitched to a 2.72 ERA in 45 appearances this season, striking out 78 batters in 46.1 innings. He will slot into the Phillies' bullpen alongside closer Seranthony Dominguez and setup man Brad Hand.
The addition of Syndergaard gives the Phillies one of the most formidable bullpens in the league. The team already has the third-best ERA in the National League (3.42), and Syndergaard's presence should only further bolster their relief corps.
