Jury Finds Menendez Guilty On All 16 Counts

New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez Convicted of Corruption

Jury Finds Menendez Guilty on All 16 Counts

Bribery Scheme Involved Gold Bars and a Mercedes

In a stunning verdict, Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) has been convicted on all 16 counts in his federal corruption trial. The jury found Menendez guilty of accepting bribes from a Florida eye doctor in exchange for political favors. The bribes included gold bars, a luxury watch, and a private jet trip to the Dominican Republic.

Menendez, who has denied any wrongdoing, faces up to 20 years in prison. He has vowed to appeal the verdict, but his conviction is a major blow to his political career. Menendez is the first sitting U.S. senator to be convicted of a felony since 1980.

The trial exposed a web of corruption that reached the highest levels of New Jersey politics. Menendez used his position as a senator to pressure government officials to benefit his donor, Dr. Salomon Melgen. In return, Melgen showered Menendez with gifts and campaign contributions.

The verdict is a victory for federal prosecutors who have been investigating Menendez for years. It is also a reminder that even the most powerful politicians are not above the law.
